Use Only Burial Approved Containment Fence Wire

Keep in mind that the type or wire owners use is Important. There is no real difference in the life span of the gauged wire that owners use. But if owners intend on burying the wire, it is imperative that owners make sure that wire is "Burial Approved". Burial aproved wiring is a long lasting waterproof, polyurethane coated wire, with a solid copper core. Here is a wire guide to help dog owners determine the length of wire to be used in a specific area.

Should I Use 18-gauge or 20-gauge wire?

Most containment fence manufacturers recommend using the standard 20 guage wiring with their units. We ship all of our containment fences with the Premium, Heavy Duty, 20 gauge wire. If owners do not want that specific gauge, we offer a Wire Upgrade option, which can be purchased with any containment fence. Some fences we have however, come with the wire upgrade at no additional cost to owners. Remember, 18 gauge wire cannot be purchased from the local pet store or pet supply catalog.

Use 20-Gauge if:
» Smooth, loose soil or clay
» You are laying the wire next to a fence
» Your yard has few trees or vegetation.

Use 18-Gauge if:
» Rocky terrain
» Above ground installation
» Your yard has many trees
